With being the last week, we decided not to do anything new and just to discuss our successes and failures. We had a lot of different and cool ideas, some worked out and some didn't. But with this project, you are suppose to hit challenges and overcome them. Our poster was a success to spread awareness for elephants, and even got a shout out by Mr.Ham to save the elephants. Our biggest challenge was to raise money for the cause. We learned that students won't give money through our go fund me. We figured we wouldn't make any money with our elephant jars, even though it was a good idea. Our biggest success was our coin draft with our families raising $43.50. It was a good experience through using new websites to create posters, using new creative skills to come up with ideas, and collaberating with a partner to make this whole project work. So even if some of our ideas didn't work out we also had more successes that helps us later in life. But we also helped the elephants.

With the coin draft, together me and maddie raised $43.50. This is a good amount of money considering every little thing can make a change. We almost hit our first goal of $50 when we made a go fund me which did not work out, and went way above our second goal of $25. If we came up with this idea before, we could have raised a lot more money, but I am still proud of us for reaching our goal.Since we did not put out the elephant jars after making them because we did not feel like we would make any money. Last week we had an idea to start a coin draft at home because our parents along with us can raise money instead of relying on our peers for money. After collecting loose change with the coin draft both Maddie and I are starting to raise money. We have raised about $10 each. After most of our ideas failing, we feel confident about starting to raise money and feel like we are finally making a contribution to the cause to help elephants. This week, Maddie and I are going to design elephant jars to get money for the cause. They will look like elephants and we will also design a poster to say why we are doing it and what our goal is. It will look like the one we did to hang up but take out the go fund me since it is not working. We will leave the other one up along with the go fund me just in case, and just to have extra posters to advertise what we are doing.
To raise money we will create "elephant jars" and put them in the classrooms. We will get mason jars and design them to look like elephants. After we are done making them, we will put them in our classrooms and talk to the class a little bit about our cause and why they should donate to us. Maddie had the idea of putting a jar and the lunch line. We can also can create a new poster on why they should donate for our cause.
This week, Maddie and I have decided to change our Go Fund Me goal. $50 is unrealistic in this case. We changed it to $25. I knew that Go Fund Me's were not a good idea, because of my experience last year. I think we will be better off doing a fundraiser.
My last post I was talking about how I was making new posters. Me and Maddie did make new posters during class time and it looks very professional. We have our cause and we used QR codes to put our website and go fund me page. This way it is an easy access to donate and see our blog post.
The one thing that I don't know will be effective is the go fund me. It was not successful with my last project, but I will try again. The one new thing I will do is make a fundraiser. I think this would make money and a fun way to raise for the cause. I will be doing this next week. The posters will be hung up this week!!!! We will print and laminate. This week, we hung up our posters in three classes. Mrs.Kenney, Mr.Ham, and Mr.Barker happily let us hang them up. This way people in the classes can read and scan our QR codes to learn more about what we are doing. We will print more flyers at home so we can get them in color, and hang them in more classrooms. The more classrooms we put the flyers in, the more people will know about the cause. When we do the fundraiser, we can make another flyer and hang it near the other one.
To spread awareness, Maddie and I are creating posters to hang around the school and in classrooms. Last Wednesday, we drew some posters but Mr.Barker gave us a better idea to make it more creative and professional. We will make a Q-R code with the go fund me website (that we are currently making) and attach it to the posters.
Posters was a big success on my last genius hour. It got people to ask about my project and spread awareness about the cause. The biggest hit was my artwork so I plan to keep my drawings on there. Maddie and I plan on designing the posters on Wednesday and Mr.Barker will laminate them so they will stay in good shape for the remainder of our project. Our organization we chose is The World Wildlife Fund. We will put all of the money we raise into this organization. Now that we have a place to donate to, we need to figure out the best approach to raise money. There is three ways...
The first way is to donate individually. So me and Maddie will create a go fund me page and after we raise a certain amount of money, we would put that money into the organization. With this, there is also another approach. We would make a go fund me. Half of the money would be donated individually, and the other half would go to one elephant. AKA donate an elephant. The other option is to create a fundraiser through the WWF and donate that way. I have a feeling this would be the better option because my experience is that go fund me page is a bust. The plan is to use the go fund me to adopt the elephant for a fun way to end the project, and the fundraiser to the actual donating. |
